Grandma Clayre's Hot Fudge

1 c. sugar
3 T. cornstarch
1 T. cocoa
1 dash salt
1 c. boiling water
4 T. margarine
1 t. vanilla

Mix sugar and cornstarch. Add cocoa and salt. Add water; cook over medium until mixture thickens. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. Can be poured over ice cream hot or cold or used as cake icing.
