Sugar Cookies


2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 t. cream of tartar
1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 egg

Cream butter, sugar and shortening, then add rest of ingredients. Roll into balls. flatten with glass dipped in powdered sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Frosting
6 T. butter
2-3 c. powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla
1/4 c. milk

Make sure to whip butter before adding other ingredients. Add food coloring as desired.

Makes 24 cookies.

Are these soft ones? Everytime I try sugar cookies they are dry and hard. They look like they are great!

This is a super yummy recipe that I just got from a friend. I like them better than my own and they are soft.

i made easter cut-out cookies with this recipe, sam actually brought some to church for his YM's class and it was a hit! they were soft and good. for the frosting, i was low on the powdered sugar and added a couple spoonfuls of cream cheese instead to the frosting .... sooo good. you can check out my cookies here www.turnitdownathousand.blogspot.com
